Friend of the Brand: Volume II

Kevin McIntosh Jr. is a force in the world of global PR, a true architect behind some of the most influential names in fashion and culture. As the founder of KMJR.World, Kevin’s career has been built on one core principle: trust. He’s honed his craft through precision, dependability, and a commitment to always showing up for those around him. But beyond his career, Kevin is first and foremost a friend to many—including nearly a decade of friendship with Sammy. We spent the afternoon with him, diving deep into the power of connection, the art of being present, and the lessons that stick with you long after the moment has passed.

Q + A:

Sammy: What’s something that you’ve learned from a friend that you’ll carry forever?

Kevin: Showing up is the most important thing. I think being a friend is hard, especially as you grow older. It takes scheduling, time, and remembering to check in. So if you can show up for people, that’s the most important thing. Sometimes we all get caught up in life, and shit happens, but showing up is a stamp of support. It lets people know that you’re there for them, and that vulnerability and support are invaluable. Whether it’s a phone call, a meal, or a little treat, just showing up matters.

Sammy: Who or what inspires you the most?

Kevin: I think it’s all of my friends. Seeing how we’re growing and navigating life together is inspiring. Some are married, some engaged, some with kids. Watching the trajectory of life and how we all support each other through it—it’s really motivating. Looking back on where we were five years ago and seeing where we are now, it’s all quite inspiring.

Sammy: What routine has had the biggest impact on your personal growth?

Kevin: Brushing my teeth every day after I eat has made a difference. I know it sounds simple, but sometimes you grab a snack, forget, and end up skipping it. But making sure I do it every day has helped, especially with dental care. It’s a small habit, but it’s been good.

Sammy: Okay. Yeah?

Kevin: Another habit that’s helped is setting aside time for myself—like working with a trainer twice a week. It’s some of the only time I get alone, and it’s a great mental detox. It helps me feel better going into work, motivated and ready to focus.

Sammy: Back in 2019, you gave us a speech at a New Year’s dinner, saying you never wanted to start your own company. And here we are, in your beautiful office.

Kevin: Five years later.

Sammy: Can you share a story about a time when a friend really supported you or changed your perspective?

Kevin: I’ve been lucky enough to have friends support me both personally and professionally. Those two often merge for me. There’s not one specific moment, but it happens a lot. Whether it’s a friend checking in when I’m having a bad day or someone showing up for an event—those little gestures mean a lot. I’m really fortunate to have such a strong community around me. Even simple moments, like running into Sammy in the building, can be a nice treat. I’m grateful for my friends, who I rely on without even realizing it.

Sammy: If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self about friendship, what would it be?

Kevin: It’s okay to need friends. When I was younger, I felt like I didn’t need them. I come from a tight-knit family, so I was taught that family is all you need. But coming to New York and building my chosen family, I’ve realized how important those friendships are. They’re people you can depend on, grow with, and know that they’re there for you, whether you see them often or not.

Sammy: Alright, last one—and this is for KROST. What are you wearing now that you might not have worn a few years ago?

Kevin: Actually, it’s KROST. The pieces reflect where I am in life now and the person I’ve become. It feels right to wear them, and I can see how they represent who I am today.
