All Things April: Steps on Taking Care of Our Planet

There’s countless opportunities to giveback, take care of our planet, and many reasons to celebrate during the month of April. Within this blog, you can read more about what KROST has planned for this month.

With our latest S’S ‘22 Collection, we’ve extended our partnership with New York Restoration Projects who share a commitment to ensure equal access to the benefits of nature for all while helping to restore our sacred planet. Through the partnership, KROST hopes to add value to NYRP’s mission that “ensures that all New Yorkers have equitable access to green space and strengthen communities, promote food sovereignty, and counter environmental and social injustice”. Together, our objective is to enhance and provide New York City neighborhoods with a brighter and greener future.

In a recent study based on “Plastic waste release caused by COVID-19,” researchers found that the pandemic has led to an increased demand for single-use plastic, which has intensified  pressure on this ongoing, and out-of-control problem. In their conclusion, statistics show “more than eight million tons of pandemic-associated plastic waste have been generated globally, with more than 25,000 tons entering the global ocean.” Read more about this study here. There are many small tasks and reminders we can approach in our own lives that benefit the bigger picture. For instance, work to help get rid of plastic in and around your home. Switching to refillable water bottles, and using glass containers will be worthwhile and beneficial to the environment.

“At its core, energy conservation is the practice of using less energy in order to lower costs and reduce environmental impact.” Think outside the box. Use natural light throughout the day to bright up any room. Remember to turn off and unplug lights and electronics in rooms that aren’t in use. Save money and energy by turning down your air conditioning or heat while you aren’t home. Here you can find more tips and information about how we can contribute to saving energy in our everyday lives.
